TW action figure theatre: Part 1/2 Team Torchwood is reading a mysterious book!
This story wouldn't have been possible without the help of jbsnow who first had the idea of making the item this story is about, and kindly supplied me with the file for printing.

An ordinary day in the Hub. Myfanwy is flying around.

Gwen and Tosh are working on their stations.

Ianto is cleaning.

Look at that mess!

Apparently they had pizza and donuts.

Jack is - reading a book?!?

Actually he is supposed to work on those reports - but he's reading.

He likes to read and has a whole book shelf.

Finally Gwen demands that he gets off his seat, because the rift monitor is making funny noises.

But Jack tells her she's in charge today and turns another page.

Gwen and Ianto catch a Weevil.

Jack keeps reading.

The Hub's overrun by scary creatures who want to overtake the world.

Everyone gives their best to fight them.

Jack keeps reading.

Finally they have enough. They demand to know what this is all about.

Gwen flicks through the pages - what's so special with this book?

So Jack tells them.
"This a new book by that cute guy John Barrowman and his sister Carole. It's called 'Hollow Earth'. It's a sci-fi novel for young people. It's about twelve-year-old twins Matt and Em who can make their drawings come to life and get into the pictures themselves. People who can do that are called Animares."

"And I wonder how they know about them. It's not just sci-fi, they are real, I once met them. We have to go and retcon these Barrowman people. Are you coming, guys?"

"Guys?"

"Um, guys?!?!?"

Gwen distractedly waves Jack away with one hand and says: "You go alone, it just became very suspenseful, I have to read on." Ianto demands that Gwen reads it out loud to them and Tosh has spotted that two more books are planned. "We can't retcon them, Jack, not at least till they have written the rest! And there also probably shall be a tv series or even a movie..."

Jack groans.

THE END - wait, not the end, I have been asked to do a sequel, which you can find under this link:

Part 2/2 "Hollow Earth" now gets read everywhere on Earth and even the Universe

If you want to see what all the fuss is about and got curious, you can order the book here (depending on where you live).

*howling with laughter* Oh, that is too much!

I'm glad Gwen convinced Jack to hold off on retconning John and Carole! Actually, I think if Jack tried to retcon John they would've ended up sleeping together! ;D

You're quick ;)
I'm always happy to make people smile or even laugh. Thanks!

And you might be right with that last sentence. See, he already called him "cute"...

I had a story once of Jack flirting with himself, have you seen that one?

In the right upper corner under "links" you will find masterlists with all stories and links, in case you don't know them all yet (as we only became friends recently). Enjoy!

I absolutely love this! The props you give them are great - all the stuff on Jack's desk, Ianto's vacuum cleaner, the pizza box (is the doughnut a piece of breakfast cereal?)- and the story is brilliant! I laughed all the way through.

I really will have to get John and Carole's book, they were on TV talking about it the other day. Is there nothing John can't do? He really is amazingly talented.
Antje: JohnB2011dieastra on February 18th, 2012 11:04 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much! I'm always happy to make people laugh, and this enthusiastic reaction is more than I could wish for. Some of the alien stuff on Jack's desk is from my Stargate figures, they had much more props than the Torchwood figures I'm afraid.

I got the vacuum cleaner from my mother last year for Christmas. It even makes the right noise! From the same company, you also can get a dishwasher and washing machine, also with noise. They look like the real thing!

The pizza box came with two figures I bought - Angel and Spike in Hawaiian clothes. I needed the bodies to put other heads on them (you can see the outcome here if you like: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/31796.html )

I once got a box full of small things from a guy from America, leftovers from figures he bought, that's where I got that donut from. I have no idea what else it could be? Although the hole is a bit big. Someone suggested to me that it looks like cat food LOL Your idea of cereal is a good one though - I see you start seeing the world with miniature eyes, like I do all the time!

I have a hard time keeping up with all the TV appearances John and Carole did in the past days. Not to mention all the radio interviews. It is amazing how similar they sometimes are in the way they sit or talk. You can see that they are very close. Love it.

Es macht so viel Spaß die Bilder immer wieder anzusehen :)

No they haven't and I really doubt that we will get one yet, since he's dead and all. When I find the right figure, I am planning to make my own Owen, just like I change all those Tennant-figures.

(wonder when I will get an e-mail notification for your comment, as I just only found it by accident. All the other comments came in by mail - hm).

Großartige Idee. Applaus!:)

Applaus!:)

*verbeug* Nochmal vielen Dank! Bei solchen Reaktionen lohnt sich doch die ganze Mühe.

ROTFLMAO!!!! This was wonderful!!! I'm especially impressed with the shot over Jack's shoulder, showing the book. What setting did you use to get the book's pages so clear? Did you use a tripod?
Antjedieastra on February 19th, 2012 09:33 am (UTC)
Uh, another comment which hasn't come trough in the e-mail yet! That's weird, as I got all the others. Just found yours by accident. Bad LJ.

Anyway, that is Gwen's shoulder actually (you can see Jack still on the other side of the desk). She is browsing through the book wondering what it is about. And no, no tripod, I just took several shots until one was clear enough. I used the special macro zoom which is even more than the normal macro on my camera. Sometimes I put my elbows onto the table surface to have the hands more still.

Thanks!

Haha, that was hilarious. I loved it, and I'm jealous of all those little bits of furniture you've got for your action figures. Are they bits from a doll's house or did you make them? All the dolls' house parts I've seen are in sickening shades of pink and purple, and made of plastic.
Antje: JohnB2011dieastra on February 19th, 2012 08:30 am (UTC)
Thank you very much, glad you liked it!

I get my things from here and there and everywhere. Some of it (the pizza carton, the book shelf, the books and alien stuff at Jack's desk, the monitors) came with figures I bought. The books were made by a friend. The sofa I found in a local shop. I just always keep my eyes open if I can use something.

The desk I did buy online. If you have a look, you will find several miniature/dollhouse online shops. There is a huge difference between dollhouse stuff for kids which is intended to be played with, and dollhouse stuff for adults. You would be amazed about how many people do have a dollhouse and like to furnish it with little stuff, which often is very expensive, because it is so detailed. The only problem I do have is finding modern stuff, as most seem to be more about a historical era, where things looked even nicer. It is also possible to set up little shops for example. Just lovely. There is even an LJ community: http://doll-houses.livejournal.com/

But you also can find a lot of stuff on ebay - just make sure to not only put "dollhouse" into the search but also or rather "miniature". I often just scroll the pages to have a look what nice things are out there, and the detail is amazing. And as you can see, I can talk about this topic all day long ;) Sorry.

The figures you see in those pictures are 6" tall, which is roughly scale 1:12. I also do have some 12" figures, which is scale 1:6 - like Barbie. It is much harder to find decent stuff for them, as you say, all is only pink and plastic. I grew up in Eastern Germany so never had any Barbies, and now at the age of 38 I finally get the attraction LOL

Absolut genial geworden :)

I am very sorry to tell you that there is no Owen figure :(
They already had a prototype which they showed at a fair but then it never got made and now I doubt it will after he's dead.

I plan to get some other figure and change it into an Owen, you can do that with a bit of creativity.

I see you have done some action figure theatre of your own! That is great, playing with figures is so much fun, and I love that I am not the only one in this world!

I just had a sneaky look into your profile - you are in Cardiff? Awesome! Love it. I have been there for the John-Barrowman-concert in 2010 and 2011 and plan to return.

BTW, I really *was* quite convinced that I wouldn't like Matt Smith as the new Doctor... too young, too not David Tennant. However, I just started The Pandorica Opens and I'm hooked! Nope, he's not DT... but he's quite funny and likable as the Doctor anyway ;). *sigh* I suppose change *is* sometimes good.

Also started Torchwood the other night and am enjoying it, though I think I like DW the best out of the two. Funnily enough, my mom really *isn't* impressed with DW, but she thinks Torchwood is quite good.

Doctor Who: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/23912.html

Torchwood: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/23552.html

Yes, I think it also took till the end of season 5 till I became a real fan of Matt Smith. Loved the Vincent van Gogh episode and also when he was The Lodger. And the opening episodes of season 6 (filmed in Utah) were quite awesome and stunning.

I think everyone has to make that experience for herself. I remember reading in our German forum of people who said they had been huge fans of Christopher Eccleston and didn't like David Tennant at first but then he won them over. And I thought, well there might be still hope for me! (that was before I had become a fan of him and was still sceptical). But I thought, if they say so, it must be true, so I kept an open mind.

How far are you into Torchwood? Wait for the end of season 1, that's when they found their feet and the really good episodes are starting. My friend almost wanted to give up after episode 5 but now she is glad she watched on.

Some people like more the silliness of Doctor Who, some like more the darkness of Torchwood. Some like both equally. Everything is fine I think. I'm glad though your mother is not taken aback by all the sex stuff that happens. Sometimes the BBC gets quite odd letters of complaint!

The other pictures is not by me but by jbsnow. It was her idea in the first place, then she gave me the file and I printed my own book. She posted her pictures in her forum http://www.jbsnowboard.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17&start=150 but I think you need to be a member to see them?

Yes, I am still hyperventilating, that is quite awesome that Carole (and hopefully John?) can see this! I am so honored. Or chuffed, as John likes to say ;)

Thank you very much for the feedback. I just put the links to the other stories into the main post so that I would not have to post them onto every single reply. Feel free to friend me to keep up with new stories as well!

Greetings from Germany

Aw, now I have John singing "Rule the world" in my ear!

Thank you, yes, that was quite a surprise that evening. BTW, I have been asked to do a sequel to my story, you can see it here - now with guest actors from other series like Stargate - enjoy!

Thank you so much! I feel so honored by all the lovely feedback. Still need to get my hands at the book though (waiting for the next David Tennant DVD to come out and then do a bit of shopping at amazon.co.uk)
