AFT SG-1 Episode: "Bane" / "Insekten des Todes"
This is the very first scene we ever did. I had gone previously through my drawers and found this dragonfly. It's from a so-called table fireworks (not sure if you know those?), which we let explode at New Year's Eve and all kind of little plastic things rain down. I keep such stuff for years in case one day I can use it.

Die erste Szene, die wir je gedreht haben. Die Libelle stammt aus einem Tischfeuerwerk zu Silvester.

So, we made the famous scenes from "Bane".

Die berühmte Szene, als Teal'c gestochen wird.

Jack tries to shoot it:

Jack versucht noch, es abzuschießen:

But it's too late, and now Teal'c pupates:

Aber zu spät, Teal'c puppt sich nun ein:

PS to woodencoyote This is my cotton ball special effect I was referring to!

In case any of my English friends wonder what the German title of the episodes means: It translates to "Insects of Death". Yeah, much more dramatically than just "Bane". They do that a lot around here, calling episodes "Apophis returns" (The Devil you know) or "Sha're's death" (Forever in a day) or also "Virtual nightmare" (Gamekeeper). But the "best" was "The downfall of the sun god" (Serpent's song) which refers to Apophis even though we all know that Ra had been the god of the sun.

Okay, I'm done with my rant now. Enjoy!

Last week I was staying with my bf in Norfolk and went for a walk. As there is so much water around where he is there are loads of dragonflies (and some honking big ones there were too) and the sound they make when they fly by is rather familiar. I was thinking about Bane then too.
Antjedieastra on August 30th, 2009 09:56 am (UTC)
Yes, I also saw some last week at our annual hiking tour with the co-workers. They are quite impressive, aren't they?

Norfolk, eh? Funny how random things do connect us. Because during the past two weeks my favourite German a-cappella band Wise Guys did songs for their new CD in the
Leedersfarm Studios near Wymondham . I saw some pictures, it looks quite lovely!

The close-up shot of Jack trying to shoot it is awesome! :)

And ther cotton wool special effect is cool. :D

LOL @ episode titles.

The close-up shot of Jack trying to shoot it is awesome! :)

Between you and me, a few months after that session (which resulted only in the first and third picture) I shot this added scene all by myself, as they sometimes do in the movie business ;) I had realized that it looked odd in the other picture, because only his right hand is holding the gun and his left dangles just at his side.

After that "continuity" mistake I started to print out screen shots for our scenes to match better, and driving everybody crazy with correctness ;)

And yeah, German episodes titles are fun. They usually tell you everything that'll happen before you are able to find out yourself. I once wrote down a complete translation list for "MacGyver", but not (yet) for "Stargate".

I was wondering when you were going to post another one, I've missed these!!!

I've never heard of table fireworks but it's a good thing you saved the dragonfly! You're so innovative with your materials.

Poor Teal'c!

And yeah, the closeup of Jack...how sick am I that I drool over a doll?? I loved reading that you reshot the scene later. LOL

Antjedieastra on August 30th, 2009 03:55 pm (UTC)
Yes, I should post more regularly, I just thought I'd save some things for fall/winter, when more people are online than during summer time where everybody is outside. Don't want anybody to miss the really good stuff!

Table fireworks are small standing cardboard rolls, you lit the fuse which is sticking out at one end, and the lid will pop off and things shooting out. My mother always makes us go to the hallway with them, though ;) Here is a picture:

http://www.kaleidoshop.de/produktkatalog/produktgrafiken/tischfeuerwerk-riesen-glueckspilz.jpg

I am a truly citizen of the former G.D.R. - we kept everything in case it was usable one day ;)

As for the reshot scene, I also added the sunglasses which we forgot the first time. Those are actually Daniel's glasses which look very odd on him with the thick black frame, so I just painted them black and now Jack has sun glasses ;) And if I made you drool then I guess I did it right. It IS a really nice shot. But don't ask how long it took to focus right!

You're right, wait for the colder months, your work deserves to be seen and savored!

Now that I see a pic and the description, I think I saw these when I was a kid although I don't remember needing to light it, just pull a tab or something. And it was mostly streamers popping out.

I like how you reused the glasses.

As for focusing, I hear ya. Remember the piano music shot I did last week? It took over 100 shots before I had something I was happy with. Thank goodness for digital!
Antjedieastra on October 2nd, 2009 09:49 am (UTC)
Yes, I know the ones you mean, too. There you only pull a string and little streamers fly out. But these are smaller, the ones I mean are a bit bigger. Maybe as long as your hand is.

Haha, I haven't seen that one yet. Nice work on the cotton, heehee.
Antjedieastra on October 2nd, 2009 09:44 am (UTC)
Thank you!

You mean, you hadn't seen the pictures before, or the episode itself?
woodencoyote: Degaswoodencoyote on October 2nd, 2009 01:28 pm (UTC)
Haha, both I think.

This is brilliant (as usual)!!! Wonderful!!!!

And as usual, I say a big thank you!

Is it possible, that I've seen these before? *ponders*

Anyway, thank you for posting these pictures. They started the urge to see this episode, and SG-1 in general, again... :)

Yes, you're right, this one is an old scene which I posted before. But if I look at the flag counter and the many visitors, I don't want to let them wait long for a new entry, and so I mix old and new pictures. It's wonderful how many different countries enjoy this place!

If you go back to other posts you also will find a lot new scenes from this year, and there is more to come!

But I am glad I could help with your urge ;) And if you also would like to see Torchwood/Dr. Who or House actionfigure theater, then you can do so here: http://community.livejournal.com/action_tales/

It's amazing how many people like to play with figures!
immerrdaimmerrda on September 2nd, 2009 08:17 pm (UTC)
This is wonderful. I love Teal'c in his "cocoon" and thanks for explaining about the changes in the titles! Thanks so much sharing!
Antjedieastra on October 4th, 2009 08:52 pm (UTC)
As always, a big Thank You!

The changes of the titles bother me most when they give away all the plot already! Maybe I should volunteer, I surely can do better than that.
pixiequeen10thk: boyspixiequeen10thk on September 3rd, 2009 01:42 pm (UTC)
Cotton ball special effect - LMAO. That's brilliant! Question- where did you get Jack's shades? I really want some for John :)
Antjedieastra on September 3rd, 2009 08:39 pm (UTC)
Would you have recognized the make-up cotton ball if I hadn't told you? Years ago when I first posted the pictures I was somehow surprised that everybody recognized immediately what it was ;)

As for the shades - that are actually the glasses that come with the green offworld Daniel from wave 1. But he looks really odd with them, as they have a thick black frame, so somebody on Gateworld had the idea to paint it black and use it as sun glasses for Jack instead. They also tried to make some better ones for Daniel from wire instead.

None of the other Daniels, like Black ops or Desert, has glasses with him. I guess it might prove hard for you to come by that green Daniel, as many people bid high for it. Maybe you find somebody who sells only the glasses to you, but most already break them when they try to pry them from his hands. They are very delicate.

The desert Jack also has sun glasses, but they are molded on and can't be taken off. Sorry I can't be of better help for you!

Guess you need to make some on your own. My friend did and they look awesome. Good luck!

Poor Teal'c! :-(

If I were over there, I'd be VERY angry at things like "Sha're's Death" as an episode title. Talk about "spoilers"! BAD translators!
Antjedieastra on November 28th, 2009 04:52 pm (UTC)
Well, then again I recently read somebody in America was ranting over the people that write the little things for TV journals. Oh, was it not even Brad Wright on the DVD commentary? While for the whole hour of "Solitudes" we shall believe that Jack and Sam are on a different planet, they wrote in the paper: "Jack and Sam are in Antarctica..." Bummer! LOL

Yes, sometimes German translation is very bad. The worst line was in "Lost City" where Jack says "Burns as a Goa'uld". They did not recognize whom he was talking about and translated it to "burns as a Goa'uld" which made no sense at all.
AmyCatamycat1959 on November 29th, 2009 04:58 am (UTC)
Makes me glad I don't get TV Guide!

Funny translators... :-)
