Star Trek: Dixieland
Every year in May we have the International Dixieland Festival in Dresden, with bands coming from all over the world. Giving concerts you have to pay for, but also there is one day where they play all over the city for free, and a big parade. It's always great fun with Bratwurst and beer and (usually) sunshine.
Some songs we danced to and sang together today were:

- Sunny Side of the Street
- Pennsylvania 6-5000
- Chattanooga Choo Choo
- The bare Necessities
- Down by the Riverside
- When the Saints go marching in
- Glory Hallelujah
- Ain’t she sweet
- I scream for Ice cream
- Tin Roof Blues
- What a wonderful World
- When you’re smiling

It inspired me for this picture!

Thank you! The festival is always great fun, and I wanted to bring that over to my toys.

Great idea! And hey, Spock plays my instrument - this pleases me ^^

Thank you!

Really? How awesome! At first I thought it was a clarinet, but I have been told now that it is indeed a Soprano Saxophone. I did not even know such a thing existed, or that you play an instrument. I love people that know how to play an instrument!

Sounds like fun, and great picture

Thank you! Yes, it definitely is fun, but I only see elderly people there. Young people don't seem to enjoy this kind of music. Some of the band members are also old, but there have been some young bands as well.

Absolutely gorgeous. I can hear Spock "jam" on his clarinet!:-)

I've been told it is a soprano saxophone but it certainly looks like a clarinet! Either way, the music is wonderful. Maybe you could come here next year!

I hope it was a sunny day as usual!

I scream for Ice cream
I love that title! How does the song go?
Antjedieastra on July 7th, 2018 05:55 pm (UTC)
Yes, it was perfect weather. Not as hot that you could not stand to stay in the sun for long but also not cold or windy. Just right!

Youtube has everything: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWKAESfeE7Y

Ah but I love Dixieland. This band is good.
So I assume the lyrics go "I scream, you scream, everybody scream icecream"? Took me a long while to understand it, at first I always thought they just sang icecream twice.

Now look what this lyrics page writes what it is supposed to be. I guess that is wrong: http://www.songtexte.com/songtext/chris-barber/ice-cream-1bb6a914.html

For some reason this song is very special for the people in Dresden at the festival, so they always get an extra loud cheer when they play it. This year we saw a band from Moscow and even they had heard about it being special.

Oh, so it's one of those songs with easy lirycs, once you know what they are ;) That seems to be tricky, given the page that got the words wrong. Now I want ice cream, too!

Come over, I think I still have some in the fridge!

Sorry if I gave you an earworm with this song ;) I certainly had one for the rest of the evening.
