Awesome! You have the whole crew now. Exciting! So many action figure stories can be done.
Antje: Kirkdieastra on March 19th, 2019 06:55 pm (UTC)
Oh! You're still around!

Not the whole crew yet, I just ordered Sulu who will arrive in a few months, and then we all wait for Uhura to happen!
I'm not sure if I want to spend money on Chekov though.
But yes, the pictures will be getting crowded. The color red certainly was missing!

I'm back. I know I haven't posted much. Health issues affecting everything but I'm getting better so will try to update more regularly.

I forgot about Sulu (sorry Sulu) and Chekov!

I meant to ask have you been watching the new Star Trek Discovery? I love the series so far. Great new characters and old. Captain Pike (season 2) is so well written but I heard actor Anson Mount only signed a one year deal so he may be leaving at season end :(

I have watched the first three episodes and did not find enough of interest for me to watch on.
I hear it's better in the second season and I wonder if I could start there again with skipping the first? But with the little time one has, I rather watch stuff I am interested in, instead of forcing myself. I have recently loved Black Mirror as well as Stranger Things.

And in general I don't think it is such a good idea to always go back and have it set before the original Enterprise? Why not have a new series going forward? There are so many discussions in the fandom, since of course the look is now differently to what we were used from the Sixties. And it will become harder and harder to try it all fit in and explain.

Anyway, I am firmly in the Orville fandom now. THAT's my show.

Man I love that show. Seth is right, we only had dark sci-fi in the past years, it's nice to have an hopeful outlook into the future. That does not mean that disturbing things don't happen, but I instantly loved all characters and their relationships. Character development is well done. I know people who love both series equally, but usually it seems to be one or the other. I am actually reminded of my Stargate fan times. Good drama with some humor sprinkled in. It was sold as a comedy/parody in the beginning and I feared Family Guy humor, but it just became better and better each week and is a proper sci-fi drama now. I am desperately waiting for action figures! And for it to be renewed for a 3rd season.

I have fallen deeply, not only reading and writing fanfictions, also watching all clips of Seth that I can find on youtube, interviews and especially his singing.

Looks like I found a new favorite guy! Even the ending of Gotham is not affecting me as much anymore as it did just a few months ago. I have come to accepted it. Time to move on.

It is better in the 2nd season. You can just jump in there if you wanted to. I too had a really hard time reconciling the look and the timelines between the original Star Trek and Star Trek Discovery. I was discussing this with a friend and they said they didn't have an issue with it at all. They said the newer Star Trek reboot movies (J.J. Abrams/Justin Lin) used an alternative timeline. It hit me then that in terms of the continuity issues I could just use those movies as the ones that came after Discovery rather than trying to use the 60s original. That worked for me...it makes sense...otherwise your brain is going WHOA!

I tried to watch Orville but couldn't get into it but that's ok maybe later I might try again as maybe I didn't give it enough time. Trying to cut down on the amount of TV watching I do in order to pay attention to other priorities in my life.

At least you found another fandom and you can continue to create beautiful art here on LJ! TV shows come and go and it's sad when they end but that's what DVDs are for lol so you can continue to watch over and over if you want.

My new favourite show is Siren. Love it as it's intelligent writing using real life issues along with ocean conservation aspects to it plus mermaid/merman legend mixed in. It's an adult drama and not a 'teen style' drama thankfully.

There's something for everyone on tv right now ;)

It seems to come indeed that fans are divided in between liking Discovery and Orville. There are some that like both, but they are so different that I understand people preferring one about the other. So if you like the darker tone, the Orville is probably not for you. But for us who are tired of dark sci-fi, it is a breath of fresh air. Back to single episodes instead of one big plot over the season. You can jump in at any time and still understand it.

Depending on how many episodes you watched I still say give it another try. First season got better each episode, after episode 4 you should be a fan. Second season starts slow as well but again gets just better and better. And they tackle so many recent issues. Each episode really hitting home. As it should be.

As some point out, after two seasons of Discovery, they still don't know all the names or there has not be any character development of the bridge crew. Orville is a team show, we know and care about everyone and they are so likeable. Not perfect, they make mistakes, but they are human. Humor has been toned down in season two, it got much more serious, some got quite dark in themes, it feels like they grew up. They are doing character episodes over too much sci-fi and action. And I like it immensely.

I can see how fans are divided. Some will like the drama and some comedy and then there are the few who enjoy both and it's that what it's all about? Something for everyone? I like some dark sci fi and some comedy it really does depends on the show, plot and characters. I think of Doctor Who as comedic sci fi and there is a few sci fi shows here that are now cancelled that fit in that genre as well that were brilliant. I will eventually give Orville another try. I've noticed a trend recently in TV where you need to give a series at least 4 episodes to get into the character and stories before you pan the show. So there's that.

With Discovery at the end of last season I found that Captain Pike (Anson Mount) is now my favourite Enterprise Captain ever! I never expected that.... The character was brilliantly done by the writers and the actor. I said if I was a character on the show, I'd follow him anywhere in the Universe lol. He has replaced Captain Kirk. Pike is the kind of character that you wish was a real person and a leader. I think the world would be a different place. It's hard to describe if you don't watch the show but lessons could be learned from him by the leaders in our world today.
